I’ve said this before, but once Christmas is over, I am mentally done with winter. I get so tired of the gray skies, frigid weather and the sun setting before 5:00 pm. I mentioned in my cute, cozy winter accessories post that I am focused on injecting more color into my outfits to help combat these seasonal blues. For today’s post, I thought I would showcase some fab pastel pieces that will hopefully brighten up the next few dreary months.
This outfit is really just a sweater, jeans and sneakers for when boiled down, but it feels so much more cheerful than that. I think the soft pinks and greens the look is utilizing are to thank for that. It’s amazing how much of a difference color can make – if you swap the items I’m wearing out for a black sweater, dark jeans and a tan bag, the vibe completely changes into a more serious ensemble. I love wearing neutrals, but there’s nothing better for lifting a mood than tossing on some pastel shades.
Pastels are the perfect color choices for winter. Unlike neons or vivid hues, pastels don’t look out-of-place against cloudy skies and snow. Their softness and the fact that they are white based actually compliment the environment beautifully. They pair wonderfully with lighter denim, tans, and creams, which means you can break out pieces from your closet that you may otherwise think could only be worn in spring or summer.
Speaking of lighter denim, these jeans are a new pair I’ve just tried that I am really enjoying. I think this is pretty obvious when you look at the majority of my blog posts, but I am definitely a dress girl. I will always choose to wear a dress in 99.9% of situations. But even so, owning a great pair of jeans is a must for any wardrobe. Denim is so versatile, and even if you’re as obsessed with dresses as I am, there are instances where a pair of jeans just can’t be beat.
I found these at Gap for over 50% off. The store in a mall near me was going out of business, so I snagged these at a great deal. I usually don’t shop at Gap or really love the clothes they sell, but I am so pleasantly surprised by these jeans! They’re a vintage slim cut with some stretch, so the style is much more current than the skinny jeans I also own. I love the slight distressing and how well the wash works with pastels.
Along with the jeans, I am wearing my Neely & Chloe x Julia Berolzheimer Lady bag I purchased last spring with a new J. Crew sweater I grabbed on sale a few weeks ago. J. Crew makes the BEST knitwear. Their sweaters are always so soft, and you can get them on sale frequently. This style has a slight puff sleeve to it. I love extra-feminine details like that.
To finish the outfit off, I put on some gold jewelry, added a velvet bow from Club Monaco that is so gorgeous, and donned my trusty Vejas. They’re also a purchase from last summer that I still can’t get enough of. This look definitely has inspired me to see how else I can keep including color in what I wear, because it definitely makes me smile when I look at these photos!
