For some reason, I have such a strong Thanksgiving fixation this year. Normally Christmas is my favorite holiday by a mile. I don’t really see that changing, but I am about a million times more excited for Thanksgiving than I have been in the past. There’s just something extra warm and cozy about it this time around. I’m already starting to think about my outfit, so I thought it would be fun to share some dresses to wear for Thanksgiving in today’s post.
When I think about Thanksgiving, there’s a moodiness and a richness to it in my mind. Not moodiness in the sense of an attitude, but rather, a depth to it. Spending dinner with family and friends. Comfort foods. Thankfulness. Changing leaves on the trees. Daylight Savings darkness. Lit candles. Autumnal flowers. A chill in the air. Steam on the kitchen windows. These little tidbits all combine to create a warm, inviting and traditional feel to the holiday for me.
When I am thinking about what to wear for the holiday, I like to remember that feeling and carry it through to my outfit. Even if we are just going to sit in the living room, I always dress up for Thanksgiving. It’s so much fun and feels really nostalgic. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to wear your darker, more autumnal dresses. I love the idea of soft velvets, earthy florals, puffed sleeves, delicate lace details, and classic toile prints. Essentially, I want to feel like I’m in a grand millennial version of the Gossip Girl Thanksgiving episodes.
The dress I am wearing definitely gives me those vibes. This is the Hill House Vivi Dress in Equestrian Toile. Unfortunately it is sold out at the moment, but you can (and should) keep check back on the site for restocks. I say should because this is one of the loveliest, most classically beautiful dresses that the brand has ever made. Everything about it from the silhouette to the print is just perfection.
The Vivi style of dresses is a mini length with smocking across the entire torso. It also features puffed sleeves and zips up the back. This dress is so incredibly flattering on, it’s insane. It nips you in at all the right places, and the slightly dramatic sleeves help to balance out the A-line cut of the skirt. And the pattern is to die for if you’re into toile prints. It displays horseback riders in front of an estate, riding through forests and leaping over obstacles.
I’ve already worn this dress several different times throughout fall, and it’s in strong contention to be my Thanksgiving dress this year, as well. In these photos, I paired it with my favorite Brinker + Eliza necklace, a deep emerald green bag from Kate Spade and some amazing button-detail Chloe boots that I found brand new on The Real Real for under $100.
For a quick note on fit – I find that the Vivi dress runs slightly smaller than Hill House’s standard Ellie nap dress. Where I am usually an x-small or a small in the Ellie, I am a medium in the Vivi. It runs true to street size, and I also needed the medium for the extra length. Some of the brand’s mini dresses can be very mini. So if you’re around 5’9” like me, consider sizing up for additional length.
