Lace Layering Tops

Hanky Panky Lace Top / 7 For All Mankind Skirt (Similar) / Naturalizer Boots (Similar) / Kate Spade Bag (Similar) / Brinker & Eliza Necklace

I haven’t been this excited about a piece of clothing in my wardrobe in a long time. And it’s a lot more basic than you might think!

Sometimes trends are lots of fun because they give you ideas that are truly genius. I am constantly looking for ways to wear sleeveless dresses throughout the winter without resorting to a cardigan or jacket. I’m talking the kinds of dresses in cold-weather appropriate fabrics like thick tweed or velvet that’s too warm for summer. But without a way to make them appropriate for snow and ice, they sit in a corner in my closet.

Enter – the sheer lace layering top. I don’t know why I never thought to layer a thin lace top under my dresses before. It seems like such an obviously perfect answer now, and that’s because it is.

While I’m not demonstrating my new fees hack specifically in this post, I have come to learn that a little lace long sleeve is exactly what my wardrobe has been missing for years. The one I’m styling is the Hanky Panky Signature Lace Unlined Long Sleeve top. I adore it. I’ve already worn it half a dozen times, and I’ve only owned it a couple of weeks.

This top is soft, extremely stretchy, not itchy at all and hasn’t rippled or pulled despite the thin fabric. I’m wearing a medium and would say it runs true to size. Like most lace layering tops, this one is completely see-through, so be aware of that if you are ordering. I paired mine with a black bandeau top in this outfit for more coverage, but I also wore it with just a black bra under a leather jacket to see The 1975.

The top is exactly what was needed to pair with this A-line, almost skater skirt-style mini I’m wearing from 7 For All Mankind (similar here). I wanted something that would update the skirt and make feel more 2023 instead of 2010.

And this definitely fit the bill! The skirt is such a fab silhouette and the perfect length for me at 5’9”. I also love that the color will work for both fall and winter. I feel super feminine but also a little dark and alluring in this outfit. It’s definitely one I’m going to wear several times throughout the season.
