A big lesson to learn in the quest of building your dream wardrobe is knowing when to splurge on an item and when to save on it. Mach & Mach shoes are everywhere right now, and they certainly are gorgeous. They remind me of princess shoes – elegant but fun and covered in shimmer and sparkle. They are ultra flattering on the foot and instantly elevate any outfit you style them with.
But – and it’s a major but – the Mach & Mach heels cost over $1,000 a pair. Now in the luxury shoe world, that price isn’t as outrageous as it sounds when you say it out loud. Plenty of iconic heels – such as Manolo Blahnik Hangisis or Jimmy Choo Bings – run right up against the $1,000 mark.
However, the word “iconic” is the difference between Jimmy Choo and Mach & Mach. Those heels have been around for years now, while Mach & Mach has only very recently blown up in the spotlight. In my opinion, as beautiful as they are, that’s where the sparkly bow heels will remain. They (along with other similar brands like Amina Muaddi) will have a massive moment in 2022 and then fade out of style.
The Mach & Mach heels are too specific a shape and for too specific of taste to have any real staying power in fashion. When you look at a Hangisi pump, you can see how it would still be stylish 10 or 20 years from now. It’s a classic silhouette with a hint of sparkle, and it feels special. Almost royal. The Mach & Mach heels are showstoppers, but they remind me of shoes from the early 2000s. They have an ultra elongated shape with a super pointed toe and a skinny stiletto heels, all of which cyclically fall in and out of fashion.
The Mach & Mach heels are a fab, fun trend to play around with in your wardrobe, but at the end of the day, they will just be a trend. That’s why I recommend saving on these and opting for a dupe instead. There are SO many great dupes out there right now for under/around $100.
I think that’s a good sign to look for when deciding on splurging or saving on a trend. If something can be easily replicated to such closeness of the original item, you should save on it. If you see dupes and they’re just not quite hitting the mark, then it could signify being worth splurging on. In general, if you’re going to be spending $1,000 on any piece for your wardrobe, invest in things where structure is integral. Coats, leather bags, boots are the immediate items that come to mind.
Always view investments in the context of your own style and closet though. If you live somewhere warm, shelling out on a coat won’t make sense. If you’re constantly going to events or work in a formal atmosphere, spending that kind of money on heels would be beneficial. No matter what, always opt for something you see yourself wearing and loving for years to come when making a large purchase. And if it’s not something you think will have longevity in your closet but you still want to try, shop responsibly for a dupe, wear it and then pass it on to a new home when you’re finished.
