A Few Little Black Dresses

Reformation Dress / Brinker & Eliza Necklace / Amazon Bag / Factory J. Crew Mules

You know what screams “I’m ready for the weekend”? The perfect little black dress. I posted earlier this week about a few little white dresses that are perfect for spring and summer. I thought it was only natural that I follow it up its opposite and still incredibly classic counterpart – a few little black dresses.

A little black dress is a potent and versatile wardrobe piece for anyone, with any sense of style. Much like a little white dress, an LBD is a blank canvas. You can dress them up, you can dress them down. You can pair them with a myriad of accessories, shoes and handbags. It will always be appropriate, and it’s especially effective in the summer, despite what you might think.

I tend to wear more black during fall and winter simply because the weather is a lot bleaker. I feel less creative when it’s freezing out, and anything black is such an easy go-to. But I also happen to think that the sunshine and blue skies of summertime can give an LBD the opportunity to really pop.

Black when it’s gray outside blends in. Black against the lush greenery of spring trees and flourishing gardens? That can be something special.

This dress that I am wearing in these photos is the Reformation Zenni dress in linen. I say this a lot, but as soon as I saw it online, I knew I needed to order it. It screams sophisticated and is impossibly chic. It’s the type of dress that I think I will have in my wardrobe for the next decade, and it will never go out of style.

The silhouette is a flattering and 50s/60s inspired A-line cut. The straight shoulder neckline is high and very elegant. I feel like I should be on an old television show when I wear this – in the best way possible. There’s a fun v-detail at the back that I didn’t show. It’s not too deep but adds a touch of modernity that keeps it feeling fresh for 2023.

The linen fabric makes it slightly more casual (and comfortable for the season). But given the trim silhouette, I think you could easily elevate it with some pearl earrings and a pair of heels. If black isn’t your thing, the linen version also comes in red. And if you’re looking for the same dress in a more upscale fabric, it also is available in a beautiful silk.

I decided to pair this dress with a few staples for me lately – my favorite Amazon wicker bag and my trusty Brinker & Eliza necklace. These beachy rattan and raffia striped mules from Factory J. Crew are absolutely fabulous for the price. They’re a great neutral shoe that will be very useful in the coming months.
