Hi everyone!! Longtime no chat. 🙂 I announced over on Instagram that I was taking a bit of time off from the blog to enjoy vacation. I’m now back, feeling super refreshed and more excited than ever to dive back into blog content. Fall is here baby!!
One of my absolutely favorite trends right now is the explosion of lady jackets for fall. I’m referring to them as lady jackets because that’s what J. Crew calls theirs, and they by FAR have the most popular one I’ve seen on social media.
But in reality, these are just collarless, short-waisted, chic jackets that have timeless, stylish details like gold buttons and tweed fabrics.
I think we are officially entering a “Recession Core” era, because a majority of trends I’m seeing for fall and winter are classic. Sophistication and simplicity seem to be top-of-mind for designers as the economy outlook worsens. Business casual styles are bubbling their way back up into the mainstream, and more trends are serving double-duty for both work and play.
I, personally, am here for a classics revival. These are pieces that you can add to your wardrobe that will literally never go out of style. Their popularity with the masses may wax and wane, but you will never look dated with a timeless piece of clothing – like a lady jacket.
These collarless tweed jackets make me think immediately of Chanel in the 1990s. I absolutely love them and think they can add such a chic touch to any outfit. Because they’re a bit more buttoned-up (literally and figuratively), it’s fun to play around with youthful proportions throughout the rest of your outfit. Such as pairing one with a mini skirt or tossing it on casually with straight jeans and sneakers.
I’ve obviously gone the mini skirt route with the outfit I am wearing in this post. I looooove this look. It feels so Blair Waldorf-runs-for-president, which feels so me. It’s elevated but not too fancy, and I can see myself wearing this out to a fun day for shopping and lunch in the fall time. The skirt is probably a little too short for conservative offices. But if you work in a more youthful environment, I’d also wear it to work!
The lady jacket that I am wearing is from J. Crew Factory, and the quality is just *chef’s kiss*. It feels like it could be a $250+ jacket. The construction is excellent, the fabric is thick and luxe to the touch, and I think the fit of the jacket is spot-on. I’m wearing a size 6 and would say it runs true-to-size.
It also hits at an excellent length on me. I’m 5’9” and was worried it might be too cropped to pair with skirts or denim. But it’s perfect! I’m going to be reaching for this all summer long and am so happy I decided to purchase it.
